SDA Assessments Melbourne

Posity provides the SDA assessment and report, not the accommodation itself. If you are searching for an SDA home, we do not offer housing. However, you can find SDA providers through Housing Hub. If you need expert SDA assessments Melbourne participants can rely on, you are in the right place.

The evidence you need to support your SDA funding request

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is NDIS funding for the home itself. It covers specially designed housing for participants with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. SDA is separate from Supported Independent Living (SIL). SIL funds the daily support you receive at home.

The NDIA decides who is eligible for SDA. To make that decision, it relies on evidence from qualified allied health professionals. That is where Posity comes in.

Our occupational therapists complete SDA assessments Melbourne participants can use with their NDIS request. First, we look at how your disability affects daily life. Then we explain what your home needs to provide. Finally, we show why SDA is reasonable and necessary for you.

We do not build, own or manage SDA homes. Our role is to give you the strongest evidence possible.

SDA Assessment and Housing Report

We assess your functional needs, current home and goals. Then we recommend the SDA design category and building type that suit you.

Functional Capacity Assessment

This is a detailed look at what you can do each day. It covers the support you need with mobility, self-care and self-management. As a result, it forms core evidence for your request.

Clear Next Steps

We explain how your report fits with the Home and Living Supports Request Form. We also show how it links to the goals in your NDIS plan. That way, you know exactly what to do next.

Looking for an SDA home instead?

Many people land on this page while searching for SDA housing in Melbourne. However, Posity does not provide SDA accommodation. That means we cannot offer you a home or a vacancy.

To find SDA housing providers and current vacancies, search Housing Hub. You can also ask your support coordinator or Local Area Coordinator to suggest registered providers in your area.

Once you know the kind of home you want, a good assessment report makes your case clearer. As a result, the NDIA can see why you need it.

Understanding the SDA design categories

SDA homes fall into four design categories. Your assessment helps work out which one matches your needs.

Improved Liveability

This category suits participants who find it hard to see or understand what is happening around them. These homes have clearly visible doorways, handles and switches. Their layouts also make it easier to move around.

Robust

This category suits participants who may occasionally act in ways that are unsafe for themselves or others. These homes use hard-wearing materials and good soundproofing. They also include a safe space for residents and staff.

Fully Accessible

This category suits participants with significant physical disability who often use a wheelchair. These homes have no steps and wide doorways. Kitchens and bathrooms also work for people who sit or stand.

High Physical Support

This category suits participants who use an electric wheelchair or hoist. It also suits people who need many hours of support each day. These homes include all Fully Accessible features. In addition, they have emergency backup power and a ceiling that can support a hoist.

Who is eligible for SDA?

Not every NDIS participant with disability qualifies for SDA. The NDIA checks whether your support needs are so significant that a specially designed home is reasonable and necessary. It also considers other options, such as home modifications.

In practice, this usually means you need long hours of support. That support might cover getting in and out of bed, dressing, using the toilet and getting out into the community. Your assessment report documents these needs and ties them to your goals.

What happens after your SDA assessment?

Once you have your report, you submit it with your Home and Living Supports Request Form. Then the NDIA reviews your evidence and decides whether SDA is right for you. If approved, SDA funding covers the physical home. Your plan funds SDA and SIL separately.
